We are all talking about data nowadays. It’s the way of the world. Understanding your data is what we all have been telling each other passing along the message of data governance, data privacy and secure data. Before we get to all of those topics first we must understand what data is.


So data by Murrains Webster is “factual information (such as measurements or statistics) used as a basis for reasoning, discussion, or calculation”. So let's say you have a business and in order for people to get in touch with you. You have a form. This form has requirements of potential client - customers information. Such as first name, last name, phone number, email and a message box for them to type in as a reason for reaching out to your business. You now have vulnerable information on your new prospective client. You store that information in a table which will be used for future data analysis. Now you have created data.

There are many reasons you might want to collect data for your business. One of the Important things when it comes to data collection and being responsible when it comes to collecting vulnerable information from people. There are many ways to ensure you are keeping data safe and secure. When it comes to securing data, reaching out to professionals that understand the ongoing battle of data and security of that data. You can rely on professionals like the Red team & Blue team. Also relying on your data administrator or data engineers.


Information Systems is complex and involves many moving parts. Always having a team of people to help you is key to data.
